On Friday, Dave Gerhardt, a sales lead at Downtown Crossing-based Privy, launched a new Boston tech podcast.

As he explained last week, he is hoping to sit down with thought leaders, founders, entrepreneurs, and investors from the tech and startup community each week to bring some of the more interesting stories in Boston to light.

The reason for starting the podcast, he said, was that “in a bunch of different industries there are some pretty great podcasts out there. In tech, there are two major ones, Jason Calacanis’ This Week in Startups and Foundation by Kevin Rose.”

“There isn’t one that is hyper local and focuses on Boston,” he added, “so at some of the events I have been going to I bounced the idea off of a few people and they were receptive. It seemed like a no-brainer connecting the startup and entrepreneur people.”

His first session, which will be available on iTunes and RSS later this week, was a talk with Ben Jabbawy, his boss and the founder/chief executive of Privy, a marketing tool to track online to offline customer behavior.

The first podcast focused on Privy’s growth, the company’s time in MassChallenge, and Jabbawy’s experience of having Privy accepted into 500 Startups.

Gerhardt already has some other interesting guests lined up including Megan Anderson, a product marketing director at Hubspot, and Josh Mendelson, vice president of marketing at crowdfunding/social savings startup DreamFund. Gerhardt also has some other, big-name Boston tech folks who are going to be taking part in future podcasts.

The first edition of the Boston tech podcast is embedded below:
